BFMD Episode 123 – Bo Knows Bombs

Summary

After Bo Bichette’s heroics got the Blue Jays back to .500 Justin and Patrick sat down to discuss the team’s current position. 

The guys talked about the players who have impressed and disappointed them so far, and broke down the battle for bench positions and playing time. 

Teoscar Hernandez tested positive for COVID-19 and was placed on the 10-Day IL along with Julian Merryweather. Nate Pearson, George Springer and Thomas Hatch are rehabbing and Robbie Ray made his season debut. 

The Jays are off to Kansas City and Patrick provides a preview of the pitching matchups. That TBD guy sounds pretty elite. 0.00 ERA. Wow.

Summary

After a 3-1 start for the Toronto Blue Jays, Justin and Patrick break down the series win against the Yankees and the win in the Rangers home opener. 

Steven Matz was electric. Julian Merryweather is apparently the closer now, Jordan Romano and Ryan Borucki look scary good, and Rafael Dolis needs to get his sinker over for strikes. 

Ryu was great on Opening day, Stripling got away with mistakes, and T.J. Zeuch earned another turn. 

On offense, Vladdy and Grich Daddy are off to hot starts while Bo and Cavan are starting to heat up. Marcus Semien has been excellent with the bat and the glove and George Springer should be ready for the Home Opener! 

The guys also talk All Star Game, Reds vs Cardinals, Yadi a Hall of Famer, and Lindor’s big extension.

Thomas Hatch left today’s game with a right elbow injury. MRI coming but it didn’t look good. 

Charlie Montoyo’s 2022 contract option was picked up meaning he will remain in charge for at least one more season beyond 2021.

T.J. Zeuch has a power sinker, Hyun-Jin Ryu is in mid-season form and the bullpen is looking like a huge strength.

BFMD Episode 115 – Alek Manoah is a Bad Man

Summary

With less than three weeks to go until Opening Day the action is starting to heat up in Florida. Young prospects Alek Manoah and Simeon Woods Richardson continue to impress with Manoah striking out 7 Yankees in his start. 

Alejandro Kirk is smashing baseballs while Robbie Ray and Steven Matz are raising confidence levels in the rotation. 

Will this be Vladimir Guerrero Jr’s breakout season?

Summary

As Spring Training nears the halfway mark, Justin and Patrick recap the past three Blue Jays games. Vladdy is hitting missiles, Roark & Matz look good, and the bullpen is in midseason form! 

MLB announced several experimental rules for the minor leagues including larger bases in Triple-A, limited shifts in Double-A, step off rules in High-A, and RoboUmps in Low-A. 

The guys give their opinions on the rules, an update on Nate Pearson, the Rangers opening up at 100% capacity, and give a special message to Rheal Cormier who passed away this week.

BFMD Episode 112 – Down Goes Big Nate!

Summary

Nate Pearson has a grade 1 right groin strain. With no timetable for his return Ross Stripling may be next in line for the rotation. 

Simeon Woods Richardson and Alex Manoah both tossed 2 scoreless innings against the Yankees in their Blue Jays spring debuts, and Rowdy Tellez continues to swing a hot bat. 

Jonathan Davis reminded everyone that he is one of the best defenders in baseball against the Tigers, but only those in attendance were able to see the catch…
